Buddhasasana Council Meets to Discuss Key Religious Issues
The council, established with representation from all Buddhist Nikayas in the country, met with the full participation of the Maha Sangha.
During the meeting, attention was focused on a number of religious and nationally significant matters. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi reviewed previous activities and discussed future plans with the council members.

Among the key matters discussed were preparations for the upcoming National Vesak Festival, reviewing the progress of the “Adishtanaye Sanghinda” national programme aimed at restoring temples affected by disasters, and proposals to introduce properly standardized Ata Pirikara offerings for devotees.
The council also discussed plans to establish special committees to address issues related to monastic discipline, Buddhist education, national reconciliation and the prevention of social issues, including drug abuse.

Discussions were further held on the responsibilities and future role of the Buddhasasana Council in addressing challenges facing the Buddha Sasana, while participants agreed on the need to strengthen state intervention to support the revival and protection of the Buddhist order.
