Schools in the Deniyaya Education Zone that were temporarily closed following a flu outbreak among students are scheduled to reopen tomorrow (13).

Southern Province Education Secretary Nishantha Pathirana stated that the decision was taken during a discussion held yesterday (11) under the patronage of the Governor of the Southern Province.

Four schools in the Deniyaya Education Zone, Deniyaya National School, Deniyaya Saint Matthew's Bilingual School, Deniyaya Rajapaksa Vidyalaya and the Siddhartha Primary School in Pallegama were closed last Thursday after health authorities reported a rapid spread of the illness among students. Officials said nearly 56 students in the affected schools had contracted the disease.

The Provincial Education Secretary further stated that a health-safe environment has now been established at the relevant schools. He added that instructions have also been issued to maintain proper hygiene practices, with special attention given to the use of water facilities.
