The Colombo Fire Brigade said around ten fire engines were dispatched to the location as efforts intensified to bring the situation under control and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures.
Firefighters have been engaged in continuous operations at the site, while surrounding roads in the area were reported to be experiencing disruptions due to emergency access.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Residents and businesses in nearby buildings were also not immediately reported to be affected.
The origin of the fire remains unknown, and officials said a formal investigation will be conducted once the fire is fully brought under control and the site is made safe for inspection.
