Speaking to the media, Gamage said Rajapaksa is expected to present himself before the Commission at 9.00 a.m. and has never avoided legal proceedings.
He said the summons had reportedly been issued based on a statement made by the late former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena.
However, Gamage claimed that Chandrasena had subsequently submitted a sworn affidavit before court alleging that his earlier statement had been obtained under threats and coercion.
He argued that proceeding on the basis of such a disputed statement raises serious legal concerns and warned that legal action could be pursued against relevant parties if the inquiry continues based on what he described as an unlawful confession.
According to Gamage, discussions are currently underway regarding procedural matters, while Rajapaksa’s legal team is due to meet later today to assess the situation further and decide on any additional steps.
