Authorities have launched an international manhunt for the principal suspect accused of masterminding a large-scale drug trafficking operation involving individuals dressed in religious robes, police said.

According to investigators, the suspect is believed to have fled to India as inquiries into the narcotics network continue. Police stated that steps are currently underway to obtain international Red Notices through Interpol to assist in locating and arresting the fugitive.

The latest development comes in the wake of a major drug bust at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on April 26.

During the operation, officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau arrested 22 individuals clad in monk robes while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 110 kilograms of narcotics, including Kush and Hash.

Investigators said the drugs had been carefully concealed inside luggage transported from Thailand.

Police believe the arrested suspects were part of a wider organized trafficking network operating across international borders. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation and identify additional suspects connected to the smuggling racket.

Authorities have intensified efforts to coordinate with international law enforcement agencies as part of the ongoing probe.
