The Minister stated that fertilizer is currently being distributed through Govi Jana Seva Centres islandwide. He added that fertilizer distribution through the private sector had been temporarily halted over the past few days at the request of the ministry, but noted that the process would now continue as normal.
Lal Kantha said there would be no shortage of fertilizer for crops including paddy, vegetables, tea and coconut during the Yala season.
However, he acknowledged that certain issues related to distribution had arisen and said the ministry was taking steps to address and resolve those problems.
The Agriculture Minister also alleged that some political groups were attempting to create a false impression of a fertilizer shortage while spreading claims that fertilizer had been purchased at inflated prices. He warned that legal action would be taken against individuals responsible for spreading such allegations.
