The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has called before it all officials responsible for plantation workers, including representatives from the Ministry of Plantation Industries and the Ministry of Labour.

Director General of the Human Rights Commission, Nimal Punchihiwa, stated that the commission had received several complaints from civil society groups representing the Malayagam community and tea estate workers.

According to the complaints, plantation workers have allegedly failed to receive the daily wage increase previously announced by the government.

The Commission said the relevant officials have been summoned to clarify the matter following concerns raised over the implementation of the wage payments.
