Due to the prevailing heavy rainfall across the country, 10 spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened.

Irrigation authorities stated that water is being released into the Kala Oya at a rate of 12,269 cubic feet per second.

Authorities warned that water levels in low-lying areas surrounding the Kala Oya may rise as a result of the discharge and urged residents to remain vigilant.

Motorists using roads near the river and communities engaged in fishing activities have also been advised to exercise extreme caution.
