A house in the Dodamgolla area of Ballaketuwa, Ella, was completely destroyed after a massive rock boulder reportedly rolled down from nearly 900 meters, according to our correspondent.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Ella Pradeshiya Sabha during heavy rainfall, when several large rocks detached from a mountain slope and crashed onto the house located in the Dodamgolla village of Ballaketuwa.

A couple who had been sleeping inside the house at the time sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for treatment. Another resident from a nearby house was also hospitalized after suffering shock due to the incident.

Local authorities stated that the affected area is situated in a highly difficult and remote terrain, making rescue and assessment efforts challenging.

Chairman of the Ella Pradeshiya Sabha, Venura Malinda, along with the area’s political authorities and disaster management officers attached to the Ella Divisional Secretariat, visited the site to inspect the damage and assess the relief measures required for the affected residents.
