Vijay sworn in as Tamil Nadu chief minister after historic election win

Chandrasekhar Joseph Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, following his overwhelming success in his first election.

The oath was administered by Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Present to mark the occasion were Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Vijay’s parents, actress Trisha Krishna, and others.

Alongside Vijay, nine other TVK leaders, including N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, KA Sengottaiyan, KG Arunraj, P Venkataramanan, R Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, TK Prabhu and S Keerthana, took oath as ministers in the new cabinet. Before the ceremony, Vijay welcomed Governor Arlekar and introduced him to all the ministers-designate.
