The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory warning that a low-level atmospheric disturbance currently affecting the vicinity of Sri Lanka is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area around tomorrow, May 11.

According to meteorological officials, the prevailing rainy weather conditions across the island are likely to continue over the next few days, bringing cloudy skies and widespread showers or thundershowers to most parts of the country.

The department warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm could occur in several provinces, including the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, North-western, and Northern provinces. Heavy showers are also expected in the Anuradhapura District and nearby areas.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize possible damage caused by adverse weather conditions. The advisory also warned of temporary localized strong winds and the risk of lightning during thundershowers.
