The Department of Meteorology says that a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area around May 11.

According to the Department, prevailing showery conditions across the island are likely to continue over the next few days, with mostly cloudy skies expected in many areas.

Showers or thundershowers are forecast at most parts of the country after 1.00 p.m., with heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm expected in some locations. Morning showers are also likely in the Western, Southern, Eastern, and Northern provinces.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions against possible temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers, the Department further stated.
