A stock of ‘Kush’ narcotics valued at more than Rs. 5.12 million has been seized by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at Bandaranaike International Airport.

According to reports, the suspect is a financial manager employed at a private company. He has been identified as a 37-year-old resident of Pitakotte.

The suspect had arrived at the airport at around 10:15 p.m. on May 8 aboard Thai AirAsia flight FD-140 from Bangkok, Thailand.

Customs officers became suspicious when the passenger attempted to leave through the airport’s “Green Channel,” designated for travelers with nothing to declare, at the arrival terminal.

During an inspection of his hand luggage, officers discovered 512 grams of ‘Kush’ narcotics concealed inside two bottles labeled as nutritional supplements.

The drugs had been packed into three separate parcels, and authorities estimate the street value of the haul at approximately Rs. 5.12 million.

The suspect and the seized narcotics were later handed over to officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
