Sri Lanka Foundation Institute returns Rs. 75 M to treasury in historic first

The Sri Lanka Foundation Institute yesterday (07) returned Rs. 75 million to the General Treasury from the Rs. 135 million allocated through the 2025 Budget for employee salary payments.

The cheque was officially handed over by Chairperson Professor Seetha Bandara to Treasury Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma.

This marks the first occasion in the history of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute that a recurrent expenditure allocation provided through the national budget has been returned to the Treasury.

According to the Institute, it generated a total income of Rs. 416 million during 2025, while total expenditure amounted to Rs. 340 million.

Professor Seetha Bandara stated that approval to return the remaining Rs. 75 million to the Treasury was granted at the Management Board meeting held on March 26, 2026.
