Sri Lanka and Vietnam strengthened bilateral relations today with the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the official state ceremony held to welcome Vietnamese President To Lam, who is currently on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka.

The agreements, exchanged in the presence of senior officials from both countries, cover a wide range of sectors including police training, science and technology, religious affairs, culture, media, and communication.

Among the agreements signed was a cooperation pact between Sri Lanka’s National Police Academy and Vietnam’s People’s Police Academy aimed at enhancing collaboration in police training and scientific research.

An additional MoU was signed between the Ministry of Science and Technology of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam to promote greater cooperation in science and technological development.

In the religious and cultural sphere, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs entered into two separate agreements with Vietnamese counterparts. One agreement with Vietnam’s Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs focuses on cooperation in the development of the religious sector, student welfare, and the preservation and promotion of religious traditions. Another MoU with Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism seeks to strengthen cultural cooperation between the two nations.

A further agreement was signed between Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health and Mass Media and Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to enhance collaboration in the fields of information and communication.

Following the exchange of agreements, Vietnam also extended a fertilizer grant to Sri Lanka as a gesture of goodwill and continued bilateral cooperation.

President To Lam’s visit is expected to further deepen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, reflecting the longstanding friendship shared by the two countries.
