Vietnamese President To Lam to address Sri Lankan Parliament today (08)

President To Lam of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who is currently in Sri Lanka on a state visit, is scheduled to deliver a special address in Parliament today (08).

According to the Department of Communications of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, the Vietnamese President is expected to arrive at Parliament at 11.05 a.m., where he will be received by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne and Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera.

A brief meeting between President To Lam and the Speaker is also scheduled to take place following the official welcome ceremony.

The event will also be attended by Minister Dammika Patabendi, who serves as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka–Vietnam Friendship Association, along with the Secretary General of Parliament.

During the visit, President To Lam is also expected to sign the special visitors’ book of Parliament.

The Vietnamese President will then proceed to the Chamber and take his seat in a specially arranged chair near the Speaker’s podium before delivering his special address to Parliament at 11.40 a.m.

Parliament’s Communications Department noted that this marks the first occasion since 2015 that a foreign Head of State will address the Sri Lankan Parliament.

Following President To Lam’s speech, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are scheduled to deliver their statements.

After the session is temporarily adjourned, the Vietnamese President is expected to depart the Parliamentary Complex, according to the statement issued by the Department of Communications of Parliament.
