President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, is scheduled to participate in an official state reception hosted by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo today (08).

Following the welcome ceremony, President To Lam and President Dissanayake are expected to hold bilateral discussions on a wide range of matters of mutual importance. Delegations representing the governments of Vietnam and Sri Lanka will also engage in discussions covering several sectors of cooperation.

A number of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed after the high-level diplomatic talks, reflecting the commitment of both nations to further strengthen cooperation in diverse fields. The two leaders are also scheduled to issue a joint media statement afterward.

During his visit, President To Lam is expected to pay floral tribute to the statue of Ho Chi Minh located at the premises of the Colombo Public Library and visit the Vietnam–Ho Chi Minh Space exhibition featuring historical photographs.

The Vietnamese President is also scheduled to deliver a special address at the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

In addition, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, and several other political representatives are expected to hold meetings with President To Lam during the day.

President To Lam will also attend a special photographic exhibition at Hilton Colombo highlighting the longstanding bilateral relations and cultural identity shared between Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The exhibition will also showcase Vietnamese products, traditional handicrafts, and modern industrial innovations.

Later, the Vietnamese leader is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Sri Lanka–Vietnam Trade, Investment and Tourism Forum. Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya is also scheduled to address the forum.

During the event, the official launch of direct flights between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City/Hanoi operated by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air is expected to take place, along with the exchange of related agreements.

Following participation in the Sri Lanka–Vietnam business forum, President To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation are scheduled to depart Sri Lanka tonight, concluding the state visit.

The visit comes at a significant time as Sri Lanka continues its path toward economic stability under the current government. It also marks the first visit by a Vietnamese President to Sri Lanka in 15 years.

The visit takes place as Sri Lanka and Vietnam commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations. President To Lam’s visit follows an invitation extended by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during his state visit to Vietnam last year (2025).
