At a public consultation organized by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka regarding the proposed electricity tariff revision, views and proposals from the public in the Colombo District were gathered at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in recent days.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who participated in the event, presented a series of proposals aimed at reducing electricity bills for consumers while also strengthening the country’s long-term energy security.

During the consultation, he emphasized the need for transparent pricing mechanisms, efficient management within the power sector, and increased investment in renewable energy sources to ensure affordable and sustainable electricity supply for the public. He also highlighted the importance of implementing practical energy policies that would ease the financial burden on households and businesses amid current economic challenges.

The public consultation forms part of the ongoing process by the Public Utilities Commission to obtain public opinions and recommendations before making a final decision on the proposed electricity tariff revisions.
