A recent surge in viral fever cases in Deniyaya has prompted authorities to temporarily close four schools in the area following recommendations from health officials.

The affected schools are Deniyaya Central College, Deniyaya Rajapaksha Maha Vidyalaya, Deniyaya St. Matthew Bilingual School, and Palleagama Siddhartha Vidyalaya. The closure was approved by the Southern Province Governor in an effort to curb the spread of infections among students.

While students have been granted leave as a precautionary measure, school staff members have been instructed to continue reporting for duty. The outbreak has also affected local transportation services, with around 30 school buses suspending operations due to a sharp decline in student attendance.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to follow preventive health guidelines to reduce the spread of the illness.
