The case was called today (May 06) before Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela. Upon concluding the pre-trial conference, the Judge announced that the formal trial would commence in June and ordered summons to be issued for two prosecution witnesses to appear in court on that date.
The charges against the former Minister stem from his tenure as the Manager of Procurement and Imports at the Ceylon Fertilizer Company in 2016. He is accused of committing "corruption" by influencing a procurement process to favor a private company.
The Bribery Commission alleges that Jayakody’s actions during the project to carpet the ground of the Hunupitiya warehouse complex resulted in a loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the state. The prosecution maintains that the procurement was handled in a manner that provided an unlawful advantage to a private entity at the expense of public funds.
