Gold prices surge in local market amid global hike

Gold prices in Sri Lanka have recorded a significant increase today, following a sharp rise in the value of the precious metal in the international market, where prices have climbed to $4,648 per ounce.

According to sources from the Hettiweediya gold market in Colombo, local prices have surged by approximately Rs. 7,000 compared to the rates recorded at 8:00 AM this morning.

Consequently, the price of a 22-carat gold sovereign was reported at Rs. 363,400 in the Colombo market earlier today.

Market sources further noted that the price of a 24-carat gold sovereign, which stood at Rs. 388,000 yesterday, has now risen to Rs. 395,000.
