Due to influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and likely develop of a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of the island, an increase in rainfall is expected across the island from today (06) and over the next few days.

Showers are likely in the Southern and Eastern provinces during the morning too.

Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-central provinces. 

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island.

Winds:

Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be moderate.   

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
