Tourist Arrivals Drop 22.3% in April

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka declined by 22.3% in April compared to the same period in 2025, according to data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

A total of 135,643 tourists visited the country in April 2026, down from 174,608 arrivals recorded in April 2025.

SLTDA data shows that the largest number of visitors in April came from India, with 42,645 arrivals, accounting for 31% of total tourists. This was followed by 10,544 visitors from China, 10,425 from the United Kingdom, 9,943 from Australia, and 6,898 from Russia.

In comparison, 183,979 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka in March 2026.

Despite the April decline, total tourist arrivals for 2026 have reached 876,277, according to the latest figures.

Of the cumulative arrivals this year, 189,978 visitors were from India, 88,845 from the United Kingdom, and 72,816 from Russia, the SLTDA stated.
