Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodharagama today ordered the release of Kapila Chandrasena, the former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, on bail. Chandrasena was in remand custody regarding an investigation into an alleged $2 million bribe received during the procurement of Airbus aircraft for the national carrier.

The court granted bail under specific conditions, including a cash bail of LKR 500,000 and three personal bails of LKR 10 million each. Additionally, the Magistrate issued a formal order prohibiting the suspect from traveling abroad while the case remains active.

The bail application was originally presented on the 28th by President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne. Although officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) initially opposed the request, the Magistrate delivered the final order today after considering the arguments from both legal teams.
