An officer attached to the Peliyagoda Headquarters Police Station has been arrested by investigators from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of LKR 200,000.

The case stems from an incident on April 19, when the Peliyagoda Police Vice Unit arrested an individual for the possession of "Ice" (Crystal Methamphetamine). The suspect officer allegedly demanded the LKR 200,000 payment in exchange for releasing the individual without pursuing legal action or filing formal charges.

Acting on a complaint, bribery officials conducted a raid on April 24. During the operation, one police constable was apprehended immediately. However, a second officer, managed to flee the scene at the time of the raid.

Following a period of evasion, the second suspect was eventually arrested by the Commission's investigators yesterday. Both suspects were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded in custody until May 12, pending further investigations.
