The Speaker of Parliament, Jagath Wickramaratne, paid a courtesy call on Mohamed Muizzu yesterday (03), during the Maldivian leader’s ongoing State Visit to Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, noting the strong ties at both government and people-to-people levels.

Discussions also focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation through the Maldives–Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Sri Lanka–Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Association. Emphasis was placed on enhancing institutional collaboration through capacity-building initiatives and knowledge-sharing between the two parliamentary bodies.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to explore new avenues of cooperation and to promote future exchanges between lawmakers, reflecting a shared commitment to further deepen bilateral relations.

The Maldives and Sri Lanka marked 60 years of formal diplomatic relations in July 2025.
