Addressing the gathering, President Muizzu expressed sincere appreciation to President Disanayake, the Government, and the people of Sri Lanka for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him, the First Lady, and the Maldivian delegation.
He described Sri Lanka as a close and trusted neighbour, highlighting the longstanding friendship between the two nations built on cooperation in education, healthcare, and strong people-to-people ties.
President Muizzu noted that the visit symbolises the enduring bond between Maldives and Sri Lanka, while acknowledging Sri Lanka’s continued support for the Maldives’ development. He underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration in key sectors including digital transformation, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, education, and ocean conservation.
Emphasising shared global challenges, particularly climate change, the President called for enhanced joint advocacy and innovative solutions. He also conveyed deep gratitude on behalf of the Maldivian people to Sri Lankans, reaffirming that close people-to-people connections remain the foundation of bilateral relations.
Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from both countries attended the banquet.
President Muizzu and the First Lady are currently on their first State Visit to Sri Lanka, taking place from May 3 to 6, 2026.
