Sri Lanka has, for the first time, appointed a senior diplomatic representative to Palestine, marking a notable step in its foreign relations. Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath officially named M. Fauser to the post, granting him a status equivalent to that of an ambassador.

Following the appointment, Minister Herath held a cordial meeting with Fauser, during which the newly appointed envoy reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s longstanding friendship with Palestine. Fauser expressed his commitment to carrying out his duties in accordance with the policies and positions of the Sri Lankan government.

Fauser brings prior experience to the role, having served for an extended period as Secretary of the Palestine Solidarity Committee of Sri Lanka. His background is expected to support the strengthening of diplomatic and cooperative ties between the two sides.

M. Fauser is scheduled to depart Sri Lanka tonight to assume his official responsibilities in Palestine.

This appointment underscores Sri Lanka’s continued support for Palestine and signals a new phase in bilateral engagement between the two nations.
