An explosion followed by a fire was reported while ago aboard a South Korea-linked vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a spokesperson for the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

The Panama-flagged ship was carrying 24 crew members, including six South Koreans, and had been docked near the United Arab Emirates at the time of the incident. Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported.

The ministry stated that the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to assess the extent of the damage.

It also said the government will maintain close communication with relevant countries and take necessary steps to ensure the safety of its vessels and crew operating in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, 26 South Korea-related vessels are currently stranded in the strait following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.
