Sri Lanka and the Maldives took a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations as seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged in the presence of Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office in Colombo.

The agreements span a wide range of sectors, reflecting the growing cooperation between the two Indian Ocean neighbors. Among the key developments was the renewal of an MoU on tourism cooperation, aimed at boosting travel and joint promotional initiatives between Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Both sides also signed an MoU on archiving cooperation, which is expected to enhance collaboration in preserving historical records and sharing expertise in document management.

Education featured prominently in the agreements, with an MoU focusing on the training and professional development of teachers and school leaders. Additionally, an MoU on broader academic cooperation was exchanged, paving the way for institutional partnerships and knowledge sharing.

In the area of youth and sports, the two countries renewed an existing MoU to promote joint programs and exchanges, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement and athletic development.

Defence cooperation was another key pillar of the discussions. A new MoU on defence collaboration was signed, alongside the renewal of an existing agreement covering defence education, training, and research cooperation.

The exchange of these seven MoUs underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen ties across multiple sectors, reinforcing regional cooperation and mutual development.
