During the visit, President Dr. Muizzu is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with President Dissanayake, focusing on strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The talks are expected to cover expanding collaboration across multiple sectors, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are also expected to be signed during the visit, further enhancing cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Maldives. In addition, the Maldivian President and his delegation are set to participate in a special business forum in Colombo.
President Dr. Muizzu arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday afternoon (03) for a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Dissanayake. He and his delegation were warmly received at Bandaranaike International Airport by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
A special guard of honor was presented by the Sri Lanka Air Force upon his arrival. Children representing all communities lined the route waving the national flags of both countries as a gesture of welcome.
This visit coincides with the 61st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Maldives. President Muizzu also signed the commemorative guest book at the airport’s VIP lounge to mark the occasion.
This marks President Dr.Muizzu’s first official visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office in 2023. He is accompanied by First Lady Sajida Mohamed, the Maldivian Foreign Minister, senior cabinet ministers, and other high-ranking officials.
