The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has directed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne to appear before the commission on May 12.

The summons is part of an ongoing investigation into the controversial 2013 Airbus re-fleeting deal, a multi-billion dollar transaction involving the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines.

The inquiry focuses on allegations of massive financial irregularities and bribery that reportedly occurred during the procurement of several Airbus aircraft. At the time of the transaction, Mahinda Rajapaksa held the presidency and the Ministry of Finance, while Piyankara Jayaratne served as the Minister of Civil Aviation. The commission aims to record their statements to determine their level of involvement and oversight regarding the procurement process.
