Heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is forecast for some parts of the island

Showers and thundershowers are expected across large parts of Sri Lanka today, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, according to the latest weather forecast.

Rainfall Outlook

Several provinces including Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, North-Central, and Eastern are likely to experience showers after 2:00 p.m. Rain is also expected in districts such as Badulla, Galle, and Matara.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is forecast for parts of Sabaragamuwa Province and the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, and Matara.

Morning showers are also likely in coastal areas of the Southern Province, as well as Colombo and Kalutara districts.

Misty Morning Conditions

Misty conditions are expected during the early hours in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, along with the Ampara district.

Public Advisory

Residents are advised to take precautions against possible impacts of localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers. 

Sea Conditions Around the Island

Rain at Sea

Showers or thundershowers are expected in sea areas stretching from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Wind Conditions

Winds will be south-westerly at speeds of 25–35 km/h, with occasional gusts reaching up to 50 km/h in areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Sea State

Sea conditions will be fairly rough at times in the above while other surrounding sea areas are expected to remain moderate.

Sudden strong winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
