The deceased, Rangarajapaksha, an Assistant Director in the Foreign Assets Department of the Treasury, had been suspended over a fraud involving USD 2.5 million belonging to the Ministry of Finance. He was found dead in his garden yesterday (30).
Police initially noted three cut injuries on his leg and arm and launched investigations to determine whether the death was a suicide or murder.
A four-member forensic committee was appointed to conduct the post-mortem examination, which took place this afternoon (01) at Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, following the magistrate’s inquiry conducted yesterday.
