Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa addressed the crowd during a May Day rally, commenting on a congratulatory message sent by Ranil Wickremesinghe. While acknowledging the well-wishes for the event, Premadasa used the platform to respond to a suggestion regarding the formation of a joint committee between their respective groups.

During his speech, Premadasa firmly rejected the idea of establishing such a committee, arguing that such formal structures are unnecessary at this stage. He noted that the two sides are already effectively working in alignment, suggesting that a committee would serve no functional purpose in bringing the groups closer than they already are.

Furthermore, Premadasa emphasized that the movement should focus on genuine unity rather than bureaucratic hurdles. He suggested that committees are often utilized by small groups to delay or complicate actual cooperation, reaffirming his commitment to moving forward with a clear and direct collective strategy.
