Various Buddhist activities, including Sil campaigns, Bodhi Poojas and Dhamma sermons, have been organized focusing on practicing and sharing Buddhist values.
Adhi Vesak Poya falls today as an additional full moon holiday, as the month of May 2026 contains two full moons. Due to this rare occurrence, two Poya days have been designated for the month.
Accordingly, today, May 1, is observed as Adhi Vesak Poya Day, while May 30 has been declared the official Vesak Full Moon Poya Day.
The revision was made after requests from the Chief Prelates of the three Buddhist Chapters, who pointed out that the auspicious Visā Nakatha relevant to Vesak falls on May 30 this year.
Meanwhile, the State Vesak Week is scheduled to be held from May 27 to June 2.
