According to the advisory, which is in effect until 11.30 pm., red alerts have been issued for 11 districts, while amber alerts have been issued for 14 districts.
The department warned that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely at several places after in the evening.
Temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers.
The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to reduce possible damage caused by lightning activity.
