The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has requested former MP Eran Wickramaratne to give up his party membership following his recent appointment as head of Sri Lanka Cricket’s Transformation Committee.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the party has already accepted Wickramaratne’s resignation from its Working Committee and Management Committee, while also formally asking him to step down from the party.

The decision was taken in line with the SJB’s policy against politicians holding positions in sports governing bodies.

Wickramaratne was recently appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage to chair the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, which has been assigned to implement administrative and structural reforms within the country’s cricket system.

The Minister has stated that the committee is not an interim body, but one aimed at long-term transformation, and will remain in operation until fresh elections are held.
