Member of Parliament Archchuna Ramanathan, who was being held in remand custody, was released on bail today (29) after being produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court.

The MP had been arrested by Ilavalai Police over allegations that he threatened two women with a firearm during a land dispute in Periyavilaan, Jaffna, on April 25.

According to reports, the dispute arose when the MP attempted to clear a plot of land previously ruled by court to be his property, while two women also claimed ownership over part of the land.

The situation later intensified, resulting in the alleged firearm threat and subsequent police intervention. He was initially remanded until April 29, while one of the women connected to the incident was also arrested the following day.

When the case was taken up today, the Magistrate ordered that the MP be released on bail.
