The decision was formally communicated to Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Silva’s resignation brings to a close his seven-year tenure at the helm of SLC. First elected in 2019, he went on to retain the presidency through multiple elections, most recently in 2025.
The move follows weeks of mounting speculation and reported pressure from the government. Sources indicate that President Dissanayake held discussions with Silva last week regarding concerns over the administration, reportedly triggered by complaints from senior players and the national team’s recent underwhelming performances.
