In the Southern Province, showers may occur during the morning hours as well, adding to already unsettled weather conditions.
Early morning mist is also expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, and Uva provinces, along with the Kurunegala District, potentially affecting visibility for commuters.
The general public is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers, which could lead to property damage and safety risks.
Sea Conditions
Showers or thundershowers are also predicted in several sea areas surrounding the island, particularly along coastal stretches from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Winds will be predominantly south-westerly, with speeds ranging from 25–35 km/h, occasionally increasing up to 45 km/h in sea areas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
The sea is expected to be fairly rough at times in these regions, while other surrounding sea areas may experience slight to moderate conditions. Fishermen and naval operators are warned of temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas during thundershowers.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge citizens, especially those in high-risk areas, to stay informed and exercise caution.
