The resignation brings to an end Silva’s seven-year tenure at the helm of Sri Lanka Cricket. He was first elected as President in February 2019 and retained the position after securing victories in subsequent elections.
Earlier reports indicated that Silva was expected to step down following a request from the government.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that former MP and State Minister Eran Wickramaratne is likely to be appointed as the interim President of Sri Lanka Cricket.
