Speaking at a Cabinet media briefing, the Minister disclosed that a payment of USD 625,000 made to the United States Postal Service (USPS) has not been received by the intended party.
This issue comes alongside a previously reported Treasury payment of USD 2.5 million that is also under scrutiny.
According to Jayatissa, both institutional and criminal investigations are now underway.
The Ministry of Finance Sri Lanka has formally lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department Sri Lanka (CID), which had already begun preliminary action even before internal inquiries into responsible officials commenced.
The Minister clarified that while not all such irregularities are discussed at Cabinet level, this matter is being actively investigated within the Department of Posts. He further stated that the USPS has officially confirmed it did not receive the USD 625,000 payment.
Authorities are now working to determine how the discrepancy occurred, with parallel probes being conducted by the Postal Department and the CID.
