He was arrested by officers of Sri Lanka Police attached to the Ilavalai Police Station in Jaffna following investigations into an alleged criminal intimidation incident.
Acting Police Spokesman Minura Senaratne said the MP was taken into custody under the Firearms Ordinance on accusations of intimidation and verbal threats.
According to police, the arrest was made this morning (27) when Archchuna arrived at the Ilavalai Police Station to give a statement regarding a complaint filed by a woman who alleged that she had been threatened with a firearm.
Police also stated that a video circulating on social media appears to show the MP allegedly threatening the woman during a dispute over a land matter.
Following the complaint, investigations were launched, resulting in his arrest.
He was later produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court, which ordered that he remain in remand custody until the 29th.
