He made the remarks while issuing a special clarification in response to concerns raised by various parties regarding the fund.
The Minister stated that, as of April 24, a total of Rs. 9,583 million had been received for the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” Fund.
He further noted that contributions had been made by Sri Lankans living overseas in 49 countries, as well as by foreign nationals.
The government had earlier approved a supplementary estimate of Rs. 500 billion in December last year to provide relief to those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
Accordingly, the Minister stressed that certain claims being circulated about the fund are false and without basis.
He also stated that all utilization of the funds is being carried out in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
