The Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today (27) at Mattala Airport. The agreement was signed by the Director General of Wildlife Conservation and the Acting Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority.
The initiative aims to reduce incidents involving wildlife in and around airport premises, a growing concern for aviation safety. Authorities noted that such measures are essential to minimize risks to both aircraft operations and animal life.
The MoU focuses on several key areas, including the protection of biodiversity, mitigation of wildlife-related incidents near the airport, promotion of sustainable airport management practices, and improved coordination between aviation authorities and wildlife experts.
Officials emphasized that this collaboration marks an important step toward balancing aviation development with environmental conservation in Sri Lanka.
