Investigations are underway following the arrest of several saffron-robed individuals at Bandaranaike International Airport on charges related to narcotics possession, according to Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala.

Addressing the media after an event held today (27), the minister stressed that all individuals are equal before the law, مؤكing that legal proceedings will not differentiate between influential figures and ordinary citizens. “The law applies equally to everyone,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to impartial justice.

Wijepala confirmed that preliminary facts of the case have already been submitted before the courts, and that further legal steps will be taken as investigations continue. Authorities are currently gathering additional evidence to determine the full scope of the incident.

He also highlighted that law enforcement agencies are acting in accordance with guidance from the Maha Sangha while ensuring that due legal processes are strictly followed.

The incident has drawn significant public attention given the involvement of individuals in religious attire, raising broader discussions about accountability and the rule of law. Officials have reiterated that the investigation will proceed transparently, with no exemptions granted based on status or position.
