Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has called for the immediate appointment of a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to investigate the controversial diversion of USD 2.5 million in state funds, which was originally intended as a debt repayment to Australia.

Premadasa insisted that for the investigation to be transparent and credible, the committee’s Chairmanship and a majority of its members must be drawn from the Opposition.

The Opposition Leader leveled serious accusations against the government, claiming that the incident had been deliberately concealed from both Parliament and the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) for over four months.
