The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating that showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at several locations across the country after 2.00 p.m. today.

According to the forecast, the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces are expected to experience rainfall, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious as localized weather conditions may intensify during the afternoon hours.

Weather Conditions at Sea

In sea areas surrounding the island, showers or thundershowers are expected at a few locations, particularly off the coastal belt stretching from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

Winds will be south-easterly with speeds ranging between 20–30 km/h. While the general state of the sea is predicted to remain slight, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough sea conditions may develop during thundershowers.

Other Weather Highlights

Elsewhere in the country, mainly fair weather is expected to prevail. However, misty conditions may occur during the early morning hours in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts.

Public Advisory

The general public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers. Travelers, fishermen, and residents in affected regions are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather reports and act accordingly to ensure safety.
