The second derailment occurred around 6.20 p.m. today at the Slaveisland Railway Station, causing significant disruption to services along the coastal railway line.
Following the incident, train operations between Colombo Fort Railway Station and Wellawatte Railway Station are currently being run on a single line, leading to delays and service interruptions.
Railway authorities had initially re-railed the train after yesterday’s incident, after which it resumed its journey towards Colombo. However, it went off the tracks again during its return movement.
Sri Lanka Railways officials have once again launched emergency efforts to re-rail the train and restore normal operations.
Authorities stated that work is underway to fully restore the affected coastal line within the day, while investigations into the repeated derailments are expected to follow.
